Advent: 12/6: Who says, “it’s not personal?”

I have a confession.

It’s scary to write things other people will read.

Especially when I tell the truth of my own story.

It would be much easier to write from a professional place.

From the view of an “observer.” To write at an arm’s length. To give advice. To tell other people what they should do. To pretend like I have the all answers.

That would be safer.

Less messy.

Less vulnerable.

Less personal.

But also, less real.

If the Christmas story teaches me anything…

Anything at all…

It’s that- God made it personal.

Making his home among us.

For a child is born to us. (Isaiah 9:6-7 NLT)

And If anyone could write the story from a professional place…

From that of an “observer”…

From arm’s length…

With advice…

To tell us what to do…

And give us all the answers…

It’s GOD.

But that’s not how God decided to do it.

Jesus decided to join the story.

To be born into The Story.

To experience the joy of The Story.

And the suffering of The Story.

To die for The Story.

And conquer death for The Story.

To redeem The Story.

And give The Story the only true “happily ever after” ever.

What I’m taking away today is that The Story Jesus entered into is my story.

The Story is your story.

Because God made it personal.

They will be my people, and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants. (Jeremiah 32:38-39 NLT)

A Prayer I am praying if you want to join me-

Father God, Lord Jesus, and Holy Spirit,

Thank you for making it personal.

I bet there are a million and one, plus a million more other ways You could have done it.

But you picked the one way that matters most- You made my story, Your story.

I am so grateful.
